The aim was to make sensible use of the space after withdrawal of the troops in terms of urban development. By the end of 1999, the first craft and service businesses had already moved in.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the almost 5.2 km "cycling, hiking and inline skating trail" took place in January 2001, and it officially opened in September 2001. This was followed by a skating stadium, a fitness trail and a 27-hole golf course in the same year.
The circular path is illuminated daily until midnight to ensure that sports enthusiasts can also use the park in the evening.
