Saarlouis
In the wild west, Saarlouis would probably have challenged the state capital Saarbrücken to a duel. Because in the hearts of its inhabitants, Saarlouis is the "secret capital" of the Saarland.

Beschreibung
City of the Sun King
1680 Saarlouis was founded by King Louis XIV and developed by his master builder Vauban as the foremost northern defensive bastion of the Kingdom of France. The king liked his new city so much that he personally gave it his name, along with the Bourbon lilies and the sun symbol as the city's coat of arms. Today, the people of Saarlouis live in the striking remains of the fortress, which they have cleverly integrated into their city.
The longest open-air bar in the Saarland
The fortress has become a city of festivals and fetes, notorious for its "wild" parties in the old town, which in summer is always one long open-air bar. Around the Great Market, many stores invite you to stroll.
Proximity to France
The city lives well with its German-French past. Even the beautiful, quiet Saargau, which rises to the south of the city towards Lorraine, does not reveal at first glance whether it is German or already French.
