From Mettlach, the river valley narrows - the rocks become more rugged. At Saarhölzbach you leave the Saarland and shortly afterwards pass the red rocks of the Düro hard sandstone works. This is followed by the small Saar bend near Hamm. We then reach the second-highest barrage in Germany at Serrig. You can explore the picturesque old town of Saarburg, with its romantic waterfall, numerous cafés and restaurants, on foot or by taking the Saar Valley Railway.
