Trail marking sign Roman Route
The Roman Route is an easy hiking trail with the Roman Museum Homburg-Schwarzenacker as a cultural highlight and the Ski and Hiking Hut Einöd as a perfect place to stop for refreshment. The route mostly runs over paved and gravel paths. At the beginning, the route leads on the left side of the Roman Museum to the excavations behind the baroque garden to the Ski and Hiking Hut Einöd. From there, it goes directly onto the natural path into the idyllic Pfänderbach Valley. Then follows the only climb of the route, leading to the forest edge below the mountain farms in Einöd. Many horses and the family of Hans Pick with their oil mill live here. Appropriately, the Ohligberg would rather be called the “Oil Hill,” because Hans exchanged the “head-sized gold nugget,” as described in the fairy tale, here for all kinds of oilseeds that thrive magnificently in the surrounding fields. Camelina oil, mustard oil, milk thistle oil, rapeseed oil, poppy oil, or hemp oil are offered in the farm shop for those who want to make the detour up to the farm. At the forest edge, the hiking trail returns to Homburg-Schwarzenacker past the hidden Schlangenhöhle, which also offers guided tours with a nature and landscape guide. Upon arrival at the Roman Museum, the baroque garden and the excavations invite you to linger further.

Wegbeschreibung
The starting point of this route is the parking lot of the Roman Museum Homburg-Schwarzenacker. From there, the route goes right past the Roman Museum and then immediately turns right again into the residential area. Behind the open-air museum, the signposted path turns right towards the Ski and Hiking Hut Einöd. From there, it goes into the well-known Pfänderbach Valley, always idyllically along the Pfänderbach until the hiking trail leads to the paved "Schlangenhöhler Weg." This is only followed briefly until the route turns right again into the forest towards the source of the Pfänderbach. Upon arrival, turn left twice. The route leads along the edge of the forest below the mountain farms Einöd and turns right at the third junction. A few hundred meters later, turn left towards Schwarzenacker. Upon reaching the village, the route turns left again onto "Am Edelhaus" street and ends again at the Roman Museum.
