Time travel to a Roman town
Part of the museum is an open-air section where a former Roman trading town that was founded by Emperor Augustus and completely destroyed in 275/276 AD has been partly rebuilt. Visitors will get a fascinating and vivid insight into Roman everyday life and can marvel at impressive buildings such as the “House of the Ophthalmologist“, the bakery, house facades or residential streets with canopied pavements.
Park and Baroque villa
Walking through the Baroque garden you will reach the villa dating back to the 18th century that now houses the museum. Go to the second floor for numerous finds and everyday life objects from the houses and workshops of the Roman craftsmen and artists. The ground floor is dedicated to 30 late Baroque paintings of the “Palatinate-Zweibrücken“ group of painters that was founded over 200 years ago in the region.
