the view sweeps many kilometers into the vastness of the Lorraine countryside.
This extraordinary landscape backdrop inspired the Saarland sculptor Prof. Paul Schneider, who lived in Merzig, to invite artists from all over the world to Merzig in 1986 with his international sculpture symposium "Steine an der Grenze" (Stones on the Border) to create stones with the theme of borders and overcoming borders. In seven consecutive campaigns, 34 works of art were created, inviting hikers to take an extraordinary walk on both sides of the Franco-German border.
The “Stones on the Border” have also been a section of the “Sculpture Route of Peace” since 2002. A Europe-wide art project with the aim of creating a continuous sculpture route from Normandy via Paris across Europe to MoscowKontakt
