The German Newspaper Museum in Wadgassen displays exhibits covering the historical development of the newspaper, its production and its distribution across an area of around 500 m².
The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections:
The first section takes visitors through the history of the newspaper from its beginnings to the *Spiegel* affair of 1962. With the help of pull-out newspaper cabinets, visitors can delve deeper into the subject using original copies. Valuable exhibits from the early days of this mass medium complement the tour.
In the second section, which focuses on the technical history of newspaper production, the emphasis is on three-dimensional exhibits – in this case, historical presses and machines. What’s more, you can even try your hand at printing a newspaper on them yourself. Our staff will show you how.
In the third section, the focus is onour newspaper today. Various hands-on stations invite visitors to get involved and learn through play.
The concept of ‘education’ runs like a thread through the exhibition – after all, the newspaper is one of the most important means of communication today. But ‘education’ also means that the museum sees itself as an experience-oriented place of learning. And it’s not just schoolchildren and students who can learn here.
