Bostalsee Lake
The “Bostalsee“ is the largest lake in southwest Germany, offering numerous activities on and beside the water.
General information about Lake Bostal
Lake Bostal lies idyllically nestled in the low mountain range landscape of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. With a surface area of 120 hectares and a depth of up to 20 metres, it is one of the largest recreational lakes in south-west Germany. Here you can enjoy your freedom by, on or in the water whilst surfing, sailing and boating, on walking and cycling tours, whilst fishing, swimming and playing. Two large sandy beaches invite you to swim and dig in the sand.
Sailing
Thanks to the favourable wind conditions and excellent facilities, Lake Bostal is ideal for sailing and surfing. The district sailing harbour is equipped with 190 moorings in the water and 120 on land for sailing boats. This range of facilities is greatly expanded by the Saarland Sailing Association (LVSS).
Regattas are held regularly, and the Saarland Yacht School in Eckelhauser Bay (telephone: +49 (0)681 3879222) offers various sailing courses at regular intervals.
Surfing
The surfers’ base is located on the lakeside in Gonnesweiler, where 15 storage spaces for surfboards are available. You can also moor surfboards at the district sailing harbour or at the Saarland Sailing Association. Surfing is only permitted with a basic surfing licence.
Fishing
Lake Bostal is a popular fishing spot thanks to its good water quality and abundant fish stocks. Lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, char, zander, pike, eels, carp, tench, roach, catfish, perch and burbot can all be found in Lake Bostal. You can fish from various areas along the shore or from a pedal boat or rowing boat.
