Schwenker

A Saarland phenomenon on 3 legs

"The swiveler swivels the swiveler on the swiveler." For an outsider it is difficult to determine what the usage of the word "Schwenker" is all about. Therefore, here is a little explanation:

The verb "panning" refers to the type of barbecue. This includes the simple barbecue as well as a barbecue.

The word "Schwenker" as a noun refers to the barbecue. This is a three-legged construction that holds the grate, attached to a chain, suspended freely above the fire. To cook the meat, the grate is set in motion.

The grilled meat, marinated in a wide variety of sauces, is also called a schwenker. You can also find the recipe for an original Saarland marinade here.

Lastly, the barbecue master himself is also called a "Schwenker". Usually the host of the "Schwenk" is also the Schwenker. It is part of the general tradition that his activity is commented on by those present and supplemented by their own habits and experiences.

TIP from the Schwenkmeister: Beech wood is best suited for firing the Schwenker.
