Saarland is the first German federal state to be certified by TourCert as a sustainable travel destination, which is an important step towards a sustainable future. Conservation and environmental protection in the Saarland

Some 66 percent of the entire Saarland region are conservation areas where you can find rare and protected species, see reclusive wild cats, hear the call of the Little Owl and marvel at rare orchids. Premium hiking trails and awarded cycle routes lead through the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau and the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. Interreg North-West- Europe

The project "MONA - Modal Shift, Routing and Nudging Solutions in Nature Areas for Sustainable Tourism" is an initiative within the Interreg Northwest Europe Programme with the aim of making tourism in nature areas in Northwest Europe more sustainable.

Climate-friendly travel

Using the Saarland Card, visitors can travel on public transport throughout the Saarland for free. Active types who like to spend time outside to enjoy clean air and unspoilt nature while actively contributing to protecting the climate can explore the Saarland on a wide range of premium hiking trails and cycle routes. E-bike stations are available in the entire region. For emission-free sightseeing in the regional capital Saarbrücken, try a bike taxi.
