Mimbach cottage garden
Next to the Protestant Christuskirche church in the centre of the village of Mimbach lies the former parish garden. In collaboration with the parish, the village councillor Gerd Weinland drew up a plan for the small green space.
The handsome village centre of Mimbach, which is dominated by the Protestant Christuskirche (1767-69), the "Cathedral of the Blies Valley", also includes the former parish garden. It is hidden behind the Matthias-Claudius-Heim and is the property of the Protestant parish of Mimbach. In collaboration with this parish, local councillor Gerd Weinland drew up a plan for a small green area. With a wayside cross and the planting in particular, it illustrates a farm garden typical of the Bliesgau region in the past. The partially geometric design is also remarkable. Almost all of the building materials were used in a resource-saving secondary way. During the demolition of a barn in Altheim, quarry stones were saved and reused for the construction of dry stone walls. The paths were paved with old flat stones. With the support of the town of Blieskastel, employees from the Saarpfalz district's Association for Labour and Qualification (AQuiS) carried out the work. For children from the nearby parish kindergarten, it offers an active adventure area in which they can actively engage with regional plants and herbs in the middle of the biosphere.
