***Formerly Kirkeler Tafeltour***
An exciting route of about 8.7 km starting from the Naturfreundehaus in Kirkel through beautiful mixed forest on path-like trails. Numerous bizarre colorful sandstone benches, rock ledges, and caves are passed along the way. Not far from the forest classroom, the mysterious Frauenbrunnen, which was probably already used as a cult site by the Celts, invites you to rest.
At the edge of the village of Kirkel, the Kirkel castle ruin towers impressively on a conical colorful sandstone rock. The colorful sandstone rocks are unique for climbing in Saarland. Due to their location in a core zone of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve, only one rock group is accessible, the so-called "Unglücksfelsen" (Unlucky Rocks).
Autorentipp
In winter, the Burgpanorama Weg is particularly impressive. The winter silence, the dreamlike backdrop of numerous bizarre colorful sandstone benches, rock ledges, and caves you pass along the way are often covered with icicles during this season. Read on the installed boards what makes the region around Kirkel and the core zone so special and feel free to rest on benches or also in the local gastronomy.
You can also download the free Lauschtouren-App on your smartphone and "listen" to the special features of Kirkel by means of a casual "smartphone guide."

Wegbeschreibung
From the parking lot of the Naturfreundehaus in Kirkel-Neuhäusel, head to the start portal of the Burgpanorama Weg. The signposted route leads briefly uphill and continues along the steep slope over a hollow path to a junction. The hiking trail winds through the beech forest up to the Hollerkanzel. From there, the trail continues along the section of the "Felsenpfad" past numerous bizarre sandstone rock formations. The Kirkeler Tafeltour in this part runs over a soft, natural ground often interspersed with roots.
After the well-known "Felsenpfad," the path continues on a wider forest trail. This leads over the geological educational trail to the rock formations at the Frauenbrunnen. Here, there is the possibility to take a rest at a seating area. The route then continues along narrow, natural paths through the quiet Frauental. After a right turn, the path runs (parallel to the Kirkeler Bach) back towards the starting point.
At the next larger intersection, take a slight left onto a path. This slightly sandy section runs along the slope and transitions back to a natural forest floor. In this part of the hike, many different tree species of the Kirkel forest can be seen. At a junction, you will find a small rocky plateau. From here, it goes briefly uphill again and along the rocks back to the forest path and back to the parking lot of the Naturfreundehaus.
