Imperial Countess Marianne von der Leyen (1745-1804) declared Niederwürzbach her summer residence and, together with her son Philipp, built a prestigious country palace and several smaller country and pleasure buildings around the Würzbach pond. The castle was destroyed by French revolutionary troops in 1773. Today, only the Red Building, the Annahof and the gatehouse of Philippsburg are reminders of the Leyen residence.
Countess Marianne von der Leyen had the Annahof built by her court gardener Simon Glattfelder around 1788. The building is now privately owned and is a hotel-restaurant with a marvellous beer garden.
