Trail marking sign 14-Pond route
The 14-Pond-Route is a varied but rather leisurely circular hiking trail with the Blockhaus, the PETERS beer garden, Il Lago and the café at Schlossweiher as dining options. Water is the central element of this route. It leads along several ponds, pools, and small lakes in the valley of the Erbach and Felsbach streams. Numerous animals can be observed. Dragonflies, frogs, and birds make their home here. The kingfisher is a rare and special experience. During the renaturation of the Erbach, some ponds were filled in. The number 14 is still reached considering all water bodies along the path. Some imagination can help. Just a few steps away from the lively weekend activity in the local recreation area, you dive into the silence of the forest. The designated Felsbachtal nature reserve, which was officially established in 1992, leads directly from the Brückweiher into the forest. The path now goes through the former ducal hunting grounds. Between Erbach and Felsbach, it crosses the Taubental. The ponds are not a modern invention. As early as the Middle Ages, carp and pike were raised here as fasting food. The Schlossweiher probably existed even before the construction of the water castle Hattweiler, today’s Gustavsburg. In 1564, it is registered on a map by Tilemann Stella, which can be viewed in the castle and fortress museum in Gustavsburg. In addition to nature, the experience stations on the edge of the hiking trail are major highlights. The Fun Forest adventure park, pedal boat rental, the playground at the PETERS beer garden, the water playground at the mini-golf course, as well as the play and picnic meadow at the Brückweiher invite you to linger longer.
The three well-known Jägersburg ponds – the Brückweiher, Schlossweiher, and Mœhlwoog – are not only popular with locals but increasingly also with visitors from all over Saarland and beyond. Those who do not want to spend just one day at the Jägersburg ponds can stay for one or two nights at the PETERS Hotel & Spa. The hotel is the top address in the northern Homburg region and offers much in the way of culinary delights and outdoor activities.
