Description

From Nonnweiler a strenuous but exciting ascent begins over 200 meters first to the Nonnweiler dam and then on to the Celtic ring wall. The prehistoric cultural monument is a Celtic fortification with around 240,000 m³ of fallen material from the former defensive wall. The transition over the defensive wall when leaving the ring wall is particularly impressive. You get a good impression of the dimensions of the facility and at the same time have wide views of the surrounding area. Then it becomes lonely, close to nature and relaxing on the ridge of the Dollberge in species-rich mountain forests. Passing the Tiroler Stein, we descend into the idyllic Traun Valley. On the last part of the descent, a narrow path winds through dense forest. Then we follow the stream of a side valley. After crossing the stream, the landscape opens up and offers us an impressive overview of the quiet Traun Valley with its nature-protected meadows and the more than 40 ponds of the Forellenhof. We reach the end of the stage via access roads.
We recommend sturdy shoes (hiking boots) and weather-appropriate hiking clothing on all stages.

The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a near-natural path, 65% of which is over soft forest soil, over grass paths or along streams. However, this special quality can also lead to problems after long periods of rain and make parts of the path more difficult to walk on. Therefore, sturdy shoes are strongly recommended.
