Worth seeing in Homburg
“Castle mountain caves“
Underneath the ruins of the Fortress Homburg and inside the “Schlossberg“ (castle mountain), visitors can explore a vast system of caves and the largest mottled stone cave in Europe. The perfect adventure trail for adults and children alike.
Roman Museum Schwarzenacker
What used to be a Roman settlement just outside Schwarzenacker is now a place for visitors to experience the past with reconstructed buildings such as a tavern or the house of an ophthalmologist. The museum features original finds such as statues and coins plus a small collection of original paintings from the vanished Karlsberg Castle.
Trips in the surrounding area
Baroque theme route
This theme route (“BarockStraße SaarPfalz“) revolves around the Baroque era between 1650 and 1800 connecting the former centres of power of the princes, dukes and earls of Ottweiler, Zweibrücken, Blieskastel and Saarbrücken. Discover small castles, churches, gardens and very good food on this Baroque road, either guided by “historical“ figures or on your own.
UNESCO biosphere reserve Bliesgau
The Bliesgau region is close to France and the neighbouring Rhineland-Palatinate. It has recently been nominated as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and is well worth visiting for its georgeous scenery with beautiful meadows, splendid orchards and spacious beech groves.
