This route is all about typical regional products, enchanting scenery and interesting sights.
“Viez“ is the local name for apple wine. Hence, the “Viez Road” connects cultural and scenic highlights of the “apple country“. Along almost 94 miles (150 km), it will take you from Konz through the Saargau region up to Saarlouis-Wallerfangen. On your way, you will come across many orchard meadows and local farmers will offer their “Viez“, apple juice, honey, milk, cheese and other products.
Selection of attractions along the “Viez Road”:
- Roman temple site in Tawern
- Waterfall in Saarburg
- Roman Mosaic in Nennig
- Roman Villa Borg
- Saar Bow near Mettlach
- Ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach
- Wolf park in Merzig
In particular from April to October, there is a lot going on along the “Viez Road”: Farmers‘ markets, wine tastings, wine pressing demonstrations, etc. Most of the local town festivals are taking place in October, for example in Merzig or a large festivity in Tettingen-Butzdorf, Borg, Eft and Sinz.
