Tour description

First leg: Explore towns and countryside between Herbitzheim and Bexbach (23 miles/38 km)

Things to see along the route are the “Gollenstein“ monolith, the Baroque historical town centre of Blieskastel and the Roman Museum in Homburg-Schwarzenacker.

Second leg: Enchanting towns and breathtaking clear views from Bexbach to the “Bostalsee“ lake

In Bexbach, you can visit the mining museum. Cycling on via the “Jägerburger Weiher“ ponds and up the “Höcherberg“ you will reach the Bostalsee.

Third leg: Cycling through “Saarländische Schweiz“ to Weiskirchen (28 miles/45km)

This part of the Saarland is called “Schweiz“ (Switzerland) because it is a bit hilly here which means you will be able to enjoy great views! You will cycle along the Prims, a tributary of the Saar, up to Weiskirchen.

Fourth leg: Green forests and quiet lakes from Weiskirchen to Orscholz (30.6 miles/49 km)

Starting in Weiskirchen, you will pass small villages, get to know Losheim am See and finally reach Mettlach, the Saarland’s “ceramics capital“.

Fifth leg: Boundary stones and great views between Orscholz and Wallerfangen (47 miles/75km)

Today, the Saarland cycling path runs along the Moselle. Alternatively, you can cut the route short via Borg and continue along the French-German border to Wallerfangen.

Sixth leg: Nature galore between Wallerfangen and Karlsbrunn (23 miles/38 km)

Today, you will get to know the river Nied, another tributary of the Saar and cycle through the “Warndtwald“ forest. Your destination is Karlsbrunn with its Baroque hunting lodge and deer outdoor enclosure.

Seventh leg: A mixture of nature, archeology and industry between Karlsbrunn and Herbitzheim (42.5 miles/68 km)

On your last day, you will reach the Saarland’s capital Saarbrücken via Völklingen and the World Heritage Site „Völklinger Hütte“ (former ironworks). You will cross the French border and get to Sarreguemines. The last part of your tour will take you to Herbitzheim, passing the European Culture Park in Bliesbruck-Reinheim.
